REDUCING CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS What are some options for reducing carbon dioxide emissions? There are a number of areas that can be attacked. In order of increasing capital cost, they are the batch and raw materials, furnace efficiency and melter type and design. Taking the batch and raw materials, the simplest means of reducing carbon dioxide emissions is to increase the use of cullet. Most plants already recycle all the in house cullet generated by their own manufacturing processes, so increasing cullet use will necessitate the use of external cullet from downstream processes or post consumer recycling.
