The residual strength thus defined is called the strength at quasi-steady state. When the sand is very loose, the gain in the deviator stress from point C to D is not achieved. The sample continues to deform with a constant deviator stress. In other words, the quasi-steady state (QSS) becomes coincident with the steady state (SS). In the case of the Jamuna River sand, the samples are seen deforming at a constant deviator stress as apparent from the test data shown in Figures 13 through 15. This may be due to the presence of mica.
